Logline: After a tumultuous rise to power, the first ever Muslim Sultana struggles to guide her kingdom while the people closest to her plot against her. 

About CTPR 480:

CTPR 480 is the capstone project of the USC School of Cinematic Arts undergraduate curriculum. Each year, four projects are selected and funded by the school to be filmed over the course of a fall or spring semester. The CTPR 480 Class is a rewarding and enriching experience in full-scale cinema production. The class is a great hands-on working experience and a real opportunity to experience the entire production process. USC is known for producing high quality and award winning films. 

The production will be following SAG and USC COVID safety protocols as the health and safety of our crew plus talent is a priority. As required by USC Protocol, all booked performers must be FULLY vaccinated with additional TWO booster shots and will be required to take and provide proof of a negative Covid test before shooting, production will provide details on how to get tested for free. Even if you have been vaccinated, you will still be required to take a Covid test and produce a negative result before the shoot.

RAZIA SULTANA: (South Asian (India region)/Middle Eastern, Female, 21-26: 

Strong, independent and determined. Razia wants to defy the odds by being the first female Sultan and hopes her reign will unite a torn country. However, the pressure of living up to her father’s legacy and maintaining the satisfaction of both her people and advisors is a heavy burden. Although it could be dangerous, she knows putting the needs of her people come first. Razia must find the confidence and strength to reign despite those who will shut her down.

Lead

YAQUT: (South Asian (India region)/Middle Eastern, Male, 21-26:

Clever, determined and vengeful. Yaqut is a kind hearted soul who anyone would easily trust. Though he is a commoner, growing up in the palace with Razia and acknowledging Razia’s commoner roots (on her mother’s side) helps Yaqut understand her struggles with being the new Sultana. However, being tasked with her assassination complicates his loyalty. Any action he takes ultimately progresses towards revenge for family or survival for his people. Yaqut has become the only person Razia can truly trust and he feels the same about her. 

Co-Lead

SHAH TURKAN: (South Asian (India region)/Middle Eastern, Female, 45-55: 

Conniving, critical and opinionated. The step-mother who has no confidence in Razia’s ability to rule and still sees her as a child who doesn’t have enough knowledge to tackle the kingdom’s issues and responsibilities. She will do whatever it takes to see Razia off the throne, ultimately helping the elders take away her power.

MUIZUDDIN: (South Asian (India region)/Middle Eastern, Male, 30-35: 

Conceded, belligerent and entitled. Razia’s older brother who has always taken his rightful power due to his family tree. He doesn’t take his responsibilities seriously, often showing up drunk with no respect for meetings and diplomatic events. Razia’s unexpected appointment made Muizuddin even more irresponsible due to the unhappiness and jealousy of not being awarded the title of Sultan.

AMIR: (South Asian (India region)/Middle Eastern, Male, 40 -45: Supporting

Reliable and intelligent. Amir is one of the advisors who has always kept the best interest of the kingdom in mind when giving advice. He is professional, doesn’t allow his personal views to interfere with his decisions, and will always respect the chain of command. He keeps the kingdom stable with his discipline.
