Shooting 2nd week of May.  Non _ Union shoot, but under the  SAG Low Budget Agreement.

Mervette role $800

Mahmoud role $500

Description:

Mervette is a 15 minutes conversation between an immigrant, his late mother, and the people who brought her back from the dead. As if the struggles of being away from the family back home aren't enough, the people who made that meeting possible had ulterior motives.

This heartfelt horror-drama short film reflects on the last six months of my mother's life when I wasn't able to feel her pain, her fear, and her strength while battling to stay with me. What would I've said to her if I was able to say anything back then? What would she have said to me if she was alive, seeing how different and difficult the world is now?

The Film is set in present time, however it aims to accurately reflect how different Egypt was then especially the freedom and confidence women used to have.

However, I believe the people who brought her back from the dead have ulterior motives. After all, they came up with a technology that defeats death. They're trying to escape from something so natural, dreadful, and necessary.

"MERVETTE is a tribute film to my mother, to people who lost a loved one, and to death.

Characters:

Mahmoud:  25 to 35 years old, Middle Eastern man. Must speak Arabic. Mahmoud is a recent father for the first time. Desperate in this new role, this new change in life his anxiety is overwhelming. What if he messes up? He wants to meet/talk to his mother who died when he was young (2 years old) by any means necessary. He is willing to bring her back even for just a short amount of time to speak to and to see. Based on the director's own life story and "what if he could just talk to his mother".

Mervette:

25 to 32 years old, Middle Eastern woman.

Must speak Arabic.

Commands the room when walking into it. She stands out, a strong, beautiful presence. She is sure of herself.

Mervette is a mother. She is brought back to life by her adult child even if for just a moment, she has a chance to talk to him and encourage him.

She's unafraid of death and speaks with confidence and grace.
