Upon receiving a birthday reminder on her now deceased daughter RASHA's phone, AMAL's past plays out from fleeing Syria after a fatal bombing and her life as a nurse and mother before. Amal was a caring, loving mother who felt connected with people of all walks of life. After the bombing, in the war of survival, she battles between doing what's best for her daughter's livelihood and what's best for the livelihood of other refugees. Remembering the ordeal and her daughter’s resilience and love, in the present she overcomes the adversity in the new world she now lives in. LEAD. However, he has a lust for power and uses his authority to act as an authoritarian leader, unafraid of enacting violence, even onto the refugees. With a heart of gold, MUSTAFA risks himself to drive AMAL and RASHA across the Aleppo Ruins to safety. He feels indebted to Amal as she operated and saved his baby daughter's life. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [MAMA HOMSI] 60's, female, to play Syrian, AMAL'S mother. Tradition is important to MAMA HOMSI and she is caring, open, and compassionate for her family and people. Over a family cooked dinner, Mama Homsi speaks out against the military, the president, and their recent expansion in authority. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [PAPA HOMSI] 60's, female, to play Syrian, AMAL'S father. PAPA HOMSI believes the propaganda spread over the news regarding the military. Although, not a keen supporter, he would rather enjoy life than question the current state to maintain comfort in the status quo. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [ADNAN HOMSI] late 30's, to play Syrian, AMAL'S brother. Before a nearby bombing, Adnan fails to comprehend why waves of people are fleeing Syria. A stronger supporter of the military's most recent actions than PAPA HOMIS, he believes they are doing what's best for the safety of people. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [RIMA HOMSI] late 30’s, to play Syrian, ADNAN's wife. RIMA agrees with ADNAN's view of the military and finds RASHA and MAMA HOMSI's views against them a little extreme. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [FOUAD] 6 years old, plump, doe-eyed, ADNAN and RIMA HOMSI's son, a wonder of mischief. FOUAD brings levity to the family's debates as he's always caught in his acts of mischief. (Must be LA local hire) [NURSE] 30's, female, to play Syrian. NURSE assists AMAL operating on MUSTAFA's wife. When the operation appears to be taking a turn for the worst, she worries if Amal is acutely aware of the situation. LITTLE GIRL is thrust into an overwhelming, threatening world and her mother seeks to comfort her. RASHI gives her own life jacket to the little girl to calm her as she begins to breakdown. (Must be fluent in Arabic and LA local hire) [MOTHER] 20's, female, to play Syrian refugee. MOTHER is desperately searching for any way to insure her daughter's safety and comfort.
