[[[Tell Adam ( Arab American Casting) sent you.]]] Statement from Adva Reichman (Director & Writer): Whilst in the army, I served in the civil administration in Jenin. Our unit’s mission and my job in particular was to bridge between the Palestinians in Jenin to the IDF forces operating in that regime. During the war in 2014, I worked in the news. In and out of work I would hear of death on both the Israeli and the Palestinian sides. No matter how hard I tried to distance myself in order to be able to do my job well, the pain found its way in. That was when inspiration found its way too. It emerged from the breaking point in which reality seemed incomprehensible and at the same time too familiar. That is when I started writing about the conflict. I was and still am trying to make sense in all of it. ‘Somewhere I Hate’ isn’t about choosing sides. It is my way of attempting to understand why this happens and how. It’s an attempt to make us all think. I know there are people on both sides who struggle with the concept of this film. It is ‘grey’ because our life is. There is no black and white in this conflict and so I cannot write a black or white story. I believe the conversation should never end if we want to have a chance for peace. I think and hope art in general and film in particular can inspire that conversation. This is why this film is important to me and why I hope it will be important to others. Director's Bio: Adva Reichman is an MFA candidate at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, focusing on writing and directing. She earned her bachelor’s degree in IDC in Israel for communication and business. After her studies, she worked in the news in Israel for 2 years. At the same time, she also worked as a researcher on four documentaries that dealt with terror attacks in Israel. In 2015, she moved to LA to pursue her master’s degree. Today, she is writing a feature about the complexity of the conflict and is working on her thesis film that deals with the same subject.
